The Good life

It can be pretty tough to try to grow up, but still be a little kid. It’s like I have two lives. I have things to in order to grow up. Like, my book report that’s due Friday, and saving up to get a digital camera so I can see if I truly want to be a photographer. But then today, I left that busy, middle school, life and went back to my other life. The good life. I was walking back from my friend, Anna’s house. I was listening to my favorite song, (The good life by Onerepublic) and then I heard someone calling my name. I paused my iPod, and saw Olive, the little girl who lives across the street from me. She’s about three, and the most adorable little girl I’ve ever seen. I threw my backpack and iPod in my house, and played with her and the other little kids who lived on my street. In all, there’s Mark and Sophie who are 5 and 3 and I’ve known since they were born. There’s Annie who is 6 and looks like a younger me. And then there’s Matt who’s a very energetic 8 year old.
We played hide and seek and duck, duck, goose while their parents talked. We stayed outside until dark. We said good night and good bye, and then Olive said something.
“I love you, Melody”
That made me think. How if someone at school said that me, it would be like a “Will you go out with me?” But not here on Sycamore street. No. Here, it meant “I’ll see you tomorrow” I mean, I say I love you to them all the time. If I said that at school, I’d either get slapped or looked at weirdly. I miss those days. But just because I’m 12, doesn’t mean I still can’t be a 4 year old. My favorite movies are Finding Nemo and Winnie the pooh. But if someone thinks I’m weird because of that, I feel sorry for them. Why? How can you have a healthy life without watching Finding Nemo a million times? I don’t wanna grow up.
